First Annual Chili Cookoff 2009 First Annual Chili Cookoff 2009 Chili Cookoff 3-14-2009 Chili Cookoff 3-14-2009 Chili Cookoff 3-14-2009 Chili Cookoff 3-14-2009 Chili Cookoff 3-14-2009 Chili Cookoff 3-14-2009 Chili Cookoff 3-14-2009 Chili Cookoff 3-14-2009 The First Annual Chili Cook-Off 2009 Seven residents cooked up a storm on Saturday, March 14, and then came to compete. Call it Mike Cloud's Mean Tex-Mex Chili, Ma Bell's Barbeque Mix Chili, Diane Nelson's "Fit for the Boys" Ground Beef Special Flavored Chili, Diane Pagoulatos' Three Butter Bean Chili, Isabel's Turkey Corn and Then Something Chili, Brad Petit's "Special Family" Flavored Chili Recipe, to Donna's Flavorful Mix with Every Condiment You Could Think of Chili, variety and fun abounded for the Whispering Lake Chili Judges. Who were the judges? The residents of Whispering Lake, of course! The competitors lined up their crock pots. Condiments of oyster crackers, onions, cheese, and sour cream came with the tastings. Residents lined up over and over tasting the chili from every pot, making sure they "got it right" and gave the winner a "sure win". The votes were in, with each taster voting for their favorite. The winner was Isabel who was declared the favorite and awarded a Blue Ribbon at the end of the day! Pictures were taken and pledges were made. Plans for next year's Chili Cook-Off are in the works with more categories such as Mildest Chili, Spiciest Chili, and Most Ingredients Chili. Thanks goes to Donna Gernenz for the delectable Chocolate Cake she brought along with her entry as well as to the Social Committee for the organization, setup and cleanup.
